This week's industry news:
We should probably bring up Glastonbury
One of the only festivals in the world that can rival the iconic status of Woodstock, Glastonbury proved once again why it deserves its prestigious place atop the festival throne. A quick recap is in order:
Stormzy absolutely brought the house down. I didn't think I'd see 100,000 festival goers chant "Fuck Boris" live on the BBC, but alas here I find myself (Fuck Boris btw). Despite previously reported however, Stormzy is not the first Black British performer to headline the main stage - Skunk Anansie beat him to it by about 20 years - and yet I find myself unable to care. Everything was perfect, form the sign language experts miming along for the audible impaired, to the stab proof vest with the noir union flag on it, to the absolute emotion going from Stormzy. Magical, life affirming stuff.
The killer brought out Pet Shop Boys and Jonny Marr. They know what side their bread is buttered on. MØ, Kylie Minogue and IDLES all played fantastic sets, Lewis Capaldi shows Gallagher sr that its possible to be both funny AND likeable and Jeff Goldblum played the Jurassic Park theme music. So that all happened.
Joshua Burnside, The Woodburning Savages and others were there to #represent for the north. Well done to all involved.
Oh and David Attenborough forever. That will be all.
Johnny McDaid suffers neck injury, Snow patrol go on hold until recovery
One act noticeably absent from Glastonbury was Snow Patrol, who suffered a second band injury to a band member in as many months. Citing a serious neck injury, the Bangor band have called off a number of shows in the near future until both guitarists are back in fighting form.
Dave Bartholomew dies at 100
New Orleans legend and one of the founding father of Rock 'n' Roll, Dave Bartholomew was a musical legend. He passed away at the rip old age of 100, having lived an influential and full life in his native state. Respect.
