This weeks industry news:
Music venue helps rock and metal fans with mental health
In a rare case of an individual putting his money where his mouth is re: mental health in the music industry, an English venue owners has allocated his upstairs space to be used as a counselling space. Inspired by the death Chester Bennington (Linkin Park frontman), Birmingham based Jack Davis hopes to alleviate the stigma of mental health in music and tackle the project head on.
Rappers take on the outlawing of Drill Music (because its a bit silly when you think about it, isn't it?).
A pair of English rappers, Krept and Konan, have argued vehemently against the outlawing of the music genre 'Drill' (that sentence never gets less mad to read), arguing that it could push vulnerable youths into a life of crime. Robbing anyone pf their creative outlets will never sit right in my eyes, but sounds equally bonkers. If Rammstein can have a world tour, why cant disaffected youths rap about their reality? Don't like what they're saying? How about change it then, instead of plugging your ears.
Former Bohemian Rhapsody Director Bryan Singer settles out of court
The former director of the massively successful Freddie Mercury bio-pic was fired soon after filming began, and not long before the alleged sexual assault came to light. Singer has agreed to settle out of court for $150,000 with the aggrieved party, which will reportedly bring an end to the case.
Lawsuits against Universal Music Group expected to make its way to court in the coming weeks.
Remember that massive fire that Universal claimed was no big deal back in 2008? I believe the phrase they used was "virtually nothing was lost." Indeed, because thats how fires work. Very forgiving natural disasters. Well it turns out an as-of-yet unknown amount of master tapes from their archives were destroyed, with no backups ever being made. Artist such as Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin have had their master copies of their recordings disappear in the flames. Expect an astronomically large lawsuit incoming.
Radiohead release hours of hacked MiniDiscs to benefit Extinction Rebellion
Radiohead were having some issues with a prominent hacker/leaker (who maintains his intentions were in the realm of trolling and good naturedness. Funny how assholes never realise that they're assholes), and decided to suck him for everything he's worth. Releasing a slew of previously unheard OK Computer tracks onto Bandcamp is a VERY radiohead thing to do and I'm here for it.
You can find the tracks for a few more days here: https://radiohead.bandcamp.com
